Executive Summary

Implementation of ISO/TS 16949 quality management improvements and digital data capture for an automotive supplier in Türkiye. The project focused on strengthening quality compliance, modernizing operational data collection, improving data accuracy, and increasing process efficiency. The work combined quality system gap analysis, documentation improvement, internal audit readiness, corrective-action mechanisms, digital data capture, workflow integration, and employee training. Outcomes included ISO/TS 16949 certification within nine months, 98% improvement in data accuracy, 30% improvement in operational efficiency, and 15% reduction in defect rate.

Challenge

The supplier needed to meet strict automotive quality expectations while improving the reliability and usability of its operational quality data. Existing data capture processes limited transparency, accuracy, and efficiency, making it harder to use quality information for decision-making and process control. The core challenges included: quality management gaps against ISO/TS 16949 expectations inconsistent or inefficient quality data capture limited real-time visibility into quality-related information documentation and process discipline requirements need for internal audit readiness corrective-action tracking and follow-up employee adoption of improved quality and data workflows The project had to strengthen compliance and improve daily operational usability at the same time.

Role & Scope

As Project Lead, the role covered certification preparation, quality process improvement, digital data capture, stakeholder alignment, governance, training, and implementation. The project involved management, quality assurance, operations, IT, production stakeholders, and employees using the new data processes. Responsibilities included translating ISO/TS 16949 requirements into practical quality system improvements and implementing digital data capture processes that supported more reliable operational control.

Approach

The project started with a gap analysis against ISO/TS 16949 requirements. Existing quality management processes, documentation, records, and data capture routines were reviewed to identify compliance gaps and improvement opportunities. The implementation approach included: ISO/TS 16949 gap analysis quality policy and procedure updates quality documentation improvement internal audit readiness preparation corrective-action mechanism setup digital data capture process design integration of data collection into quality workflows employee training on new processes and tools performance monitoring and continuous improvement routines A central part of the approach was connecting certification readiness with operational performance. The digital data capture improvements were not treated as a separate IT activity, but as part of a stronger quality management and process control system.

Key Contributions

  • Established the project structure for ISO/TS 16949 quality management and digital data capture improvement.
  • Conducted a gap analysis against ISO/TS 16949 requirements and translated findings into an implementation roadmap.
  • Updated quality management documentation, procedures, records, and process standards.
  • Established internal audit readiness and corrective-action follow-up mechanisms.
  • Designed and implemented improved digital data capture processes for quality management.
  • Integrated data collection into existing operational and quality workflows.
  • Trained employees on updated quality procedures and digital data capture practices.
  • Improved data accuracy, operational efficiency, and defect visibility through stronger process control.

Impact

  • ISO/TS 16949 certification achieved within nine months
  • 98% improvement in data accuracy
  • 30% improvement in operational efficiency
  • 15% reduction in defect rate

The project strengthened the supplier’s quality management system and created a more reliable data foundation for operational decision-making. Quality information became more accurate, accessible, and actionable, supporting better process control and continuous improvement.
